humour me.

Battle of the Bands 2005 - Interschool. the competition on Saturday was a lot of fun. complicated but fun. it was held at West Spring Seondary School. although i have to say that we felt pretty out of place. the concept of our band were totally different. but no matter how different a band is from the rest, i still believe that what's most important is that we're all in it for the music. the competitions are simply a platform to challenge ourselves to see how far we can go and also to push ourselves to give in our best.

but some people are obviously more narrow-minded than others.

Here's to the people who criticized us and supposedly "don't like us".

At least we had the guts to try. Everybody's got to start somewhere and we're not afraid to make mistakes and we're not afraid to be let down. Most importantly, we're not afraid to lose. Not afraid to fail. If you think that being an "all-talk, no action" is a good way to start, by all means.

What doesn't kill you, will only make you stronger.

I'd really appreciate criticisms if they were directed at our weaknesses and areas which we can work on. But if you "don't like us" JUST BECAUSE, then it's a waste of time. Save your breath and leave it to your little gossip sessions because it doesn't help, neither will it affect us in any way. Don't make me call u the "K" word!

*drops serious tone*

I don't know if it's good or bad that we lost by a mark. Yep. We lost by a mark. Well, I'm not gonna make a big deal out of the marks. I'd like to thank 2 of the judges, Paul Das and the drummer from Ministry of Rock (i think his name is Akim?) for your comments when I approached them after the competition that day. Really appreciate it.

Well, I guess after observing all the bands, the organisers felt that a mark was indeed a big deal, and felt we deserved certain "tokens" that had initially been offered only to the official winners of the competition.

That performance had been a pretty special one, I'd say, because that was the first time my parents ever saw me performed. Coolness. It was nice seeing their pleased faces in the crowd.

Anyway, I knew it was going to be another *testosterone-overloaded* day, so I had a flower in my hair the WHOLE day just so I'd feel more girlish. And whadya know, I loved having a flower in my hair! Who cares if i looked silly...I had a flower in my hair! I never had a flower in my hair before. heh.

To all who came down to support us, THANKS EH!

To Hairul, who got the Best Bassist Award, congrats, the next jamming sessions are gonna be on you. Haha.

To the guys, im proud of u all lah. Let them say what they want. We're not gonna let anyone or anything dampen our spirits.

I don't have cable at home. Yes, that means none of those Cartoon Network or HBO and most importantly, no MTV. Even if I do have cable, it'll be a waste of money anyway 'cause firstly, I spend more time OUT of home, than AT home. So when I do get to stay at home, Im either resting (sleeping) , cleaning up the mess, using the computer, reading, basically anything but the TV.

Yes, i'm telectually-deprived.

Anyway, I was searching MTV2 for that live video of The Used & MCR's cover of "Under Pressure". You gotta try to catch it, if u haven't already. It's awesome. Im not a big fan of either, but I must say after watching that vid at Zi Jian's place the other day, I think I like that version better than Bowie & Queen's.

The main point for my entry today is that, I couldn't find that video BUT I found this:

http://www.mtv2.com/#series/18089

24 Hours of Foo.

HOLY FUUCCCKK.

Foo Fighters rock. Period.

They had a concert in Singapore at WTC Harbour Pavillion on 6 January 1996. I was 9. Well, it's been 9 years now. Come again!

I can't get this song out of my head. I Love.

Coffee

by Copeland

album: Beneath Medicine Tree (2003)

there's plenty of time left tonight,
i promised i'd have you home before daylight.
we do the best we can in a small town;
act like big city kids when the sun goes down.

if it's not too late for coffee,
i'll be at your place in ten.
we'll hit that all-night diner
and then we'll see.

there's so many things i have to say,
i'll stay up all night to hear about your day.
we do the best we can in a small town;
act like kids in love when the sun goes down.

if it's not too late for coffee,
i'll be at your place in ten.
we'll hit that all-night diner
and then we'll see.

there's a love that transcends
all that we've known of ourselves,
and i'll wait for it to come,
i'll wait for it to come.

well, it's got to be strong to touch my heart
through its shell,
and i'll wait for it to come,
i'll wait for it to come.

if it's not too late for coffee,
i'll be at your place in ten.
we'll hit that all-night diner
and then we'll see.

there's a love that transcends
all that we've known of ourselves,
and i'll wait for it to come,
i'll wait for it to come.

well, it's got to be strong to touch my heart
through its shell,
and i'll wait for it to come,
i'll wait for it to come down.

This afternoon, my dad had The Eagles' and Deep Purple on loudly in the living room. As we were singing along to Hotel California, I got reminded of the rumour about the song being satanic and that Hotel California is really the name of the "Church of Satan". If you listen to the words, you'll find that it's plausible.

Check this page out: http://www.snopes.com/music/songs/hotel.htm

It's nothing more than just a rumour. Those who chose to believe in the rumour probably needed something interesting to spice up their lives. Nonetheless, it's a beautiful song. Even if it's proven satanic after all, I think I'd still listen to it. Listening to something satanic, doesn't make me satanic.

"Welcome to the Hotel California..."

Thanks everyone for the interesting suggestions. I guess I've been worrying too much, or not getting enough rest coz I'm now down with a terrible flu. Being sick sucks.

-----------------------------------------

don't get me wrong. i love my parents. but i think parents have some special powers we aren't aware of 'cause mine can spoil my day effortlessly in a split second.

I'm not complaining though. Once i get my new keyboard, they can spoil my days however they wish. Just as long as I get the keyboard. Don't call me a brat. I had to convince my dad that I'm willing to part with a fraction of my weekly allowance so that I could continue my keybaord lessons and also get a new keyboard.

(Just in case someone super-rich & super-generous is reading..)

I would love to have the KORG PA50. It's only slightly over a grand.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

But i think I'll settle for a Yamaha PSR- series for now and upgrade in the future.

By the way, I've been told that these keyboards are available at Mustafa Centre at a very low price except they don't come with a guarantee. Do you think it's worth the risk to get one without a guarantee?

Ladies & Gents, Saudara Saudari, Guys, Girls, Brats and all beings on the face of the earth....

I need help.

How in the world do you people wake up in the morning? And im not talking about 11 in the morning. I'm talking 5-7 am. I'm starting to hate myself, but seriously it's not like I don't even try to wake up early! I don't think im lazy per se but hey, there's a little lazy kid in everyone, no?

My everyday routine (or lack thereof) is getting on my nerves! Different methods have been tried & tested but to no freaken avail. I try to sleep early but no matter how early I hit the sack, I'll only drift off to dreamland at 2am earliest, usually 3 or 4am. This sucks big 'cause its taxing on my body and screwing up my brains.

"How bout setting multiple alarm clocks at the same time?" - Done that.

"Don't your mom wake you up?" - No hun, my parents gotta go to work so they can afford the multiple alarm clocks you suggested.

"What bout your dad?" - You got something against my parents or something? Im the one who needs help here. So, let's focus on me shall we?

"Don't you think you're being an irresponsible young adult?" - Shut up, Bitch.

This morning, I reached the classroom just in time to have the exam question paper handed to me in the face. That's after having practically half the class called & text me to hurry 'cause the Invigilator was gonna start the paper without me. Well, let's look on the positive side shall we? At least I got to do the exam within it's full one-hour duration. Heh.

My skin's having a breakout and I think my sleep deprivation is partly to be blamed. I want my skin back!

Dear not-so-perfect-but-so-much-better-than-the-current skin, please come back. I miss you. If I promise to sleep, will you come back?

Love,
Fiza

So, suggestions please Dear-Beloved-Blog-Readers. Please make full use of the tagboard.

Tell me:
- How do you wake up so early in the morning?
- What should I do so that I can fall asleep earlier easily?
- Other than Botox, what can be done to repair my sleep-deprived eyes?
(Eye-cream don't seem to be working. Bummer.)

Thank you, your cooperation will be so much appreciated. Anyone?

Happy Birthday Singapore!

So, how did you spend your holiday?

Mine had been a blast!

First up, Shahida & I went down to Yishun to catch 3dash1. I wasn't really sure what time they were gonna be up but since Nashir said they were performing at 3.15pm, we took our own sweet time at lunch. On our way to that big field, we heard Ashik's voice saying, "Ok, this is going to be our last song". What?? Great.

So we quickened our pace and as we walked on the mud & sand i saw a familiar flustered face walking my direction. It was Scott. He was the friendly assistant stage manager for SOR. We waved eagerly at each other, had a brief chat, we walked on and saw the HUGE stage with the three small guys on it. Haha. They were performing the song they performed at the Finals, "And if you're Gone". Cool song. I like.

After they did their set, this tall guy in front of us turned and it was Sujin Thomas. He was one of the judges at the auditions and Semis and also a Music Reporter for Life!. After exchanging "hi"s, we went to stand in the shade and took shelter from the scorching heat. I guess even the centipedes in the field were looking for shelter too 'cause one long black one crawled up under my bootcut jeans! YIKES!!

Met up with the guys for a while then we left for City Hall. While waiting for Shermin & Ting, bumped into Andrew!

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Then Sha & I took more pix to occupy our time while waiting for them...

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Upon their long awaited arrival, to the Esplanade we went. Shermin brought her younger sister who is such a darling!! Im not one who's very fond of kids but she's an exception. Anyway, it wasn't at all surprising that everywhere we went to was overwhelmingly crowded. So we hung out at Mrs. Fields until Ting got hungry and we went to eat at 2Hot. People, the next time I suggest going there to eat, please kindly scream a "FUCK NO!".
After an absolutely unsatisfactory and expensive meal, we stood outside Thai Express waiting for the fireworks. Met Kak Sarah who was having dinner with her friends. Fireworks were beautifooool!! I especially loved the one where it seemed as though it was raining gold but the fact was black ashes rained on us. Wonderful, nonetheless.

Sit & type before you forget: Finale

Ok last one.

School of Rock Finals (31/8)
--------------------------------

Met up with Tini from Everti and went down to Junction 8 together. The place was PACKED. And the hot weather didn't help at all. Oh well, better that than having to stand in the rain. So, band after band performed and saw quite a few familiar faces, including Dharma from West grand Boulevard.

He didn't know me, but when i was down at StreetFest earlier this yr to catch my uncle's band, The Ziggies, WGB was the band after my uncle's (refer to post Thursday, June 09 05). I remembered Dharma 'cause i remembered what he was saying about technology and that we should use Apple computers instead of the PC (i think). I didn't know what I was thinking but i guess he seemed nice in SOFT so i decided to just say hi when he walked past me.
He seemed shocked tho'. Sorry dude, didn't mean to freak you out.

The results were finally being announced and I was kinda excited for the bands. I was rooting for Audio Break'out, 3dash1 and Aspirin. And guess what? They were the Top 3 bands. Aspirin got Third place, Audio Break'Out - 2nd and 3dash1 were crowned champions. And they undeniably deserved it. Congrats to all the bands, i think they all did awesome!

Tini w/ Sunset Boulevard

Baybeats 2005
-------------------
Baybeats 2005 rocks.
You've got to be there to know how rockin' it was 'cause i don't how to go on describing it in words. I guess it was best for me 'cause I got to see Copeland on Sunday when I went down with elii. They are fabulous. We saw them at two separate sets. One at The Village when they did acoustics, and another at The Arena. Wow. I guess it was awesome also because we were inside the area where u have to pass the Security to get in. and even though the place was PACKED, there weren't alot of people standing near our spot so while we got to feel the atmosphere, we still got to listen to them in peace. Bliss.
Before Copeland was Electrico. They're impressive and I was really happy 'cause the turnout was incredible. This meant that more people are supporting local music. That's great news.

Sit & type before you forget: Part 4

School Of Rock 2005: Semi-Finals 24th August 2005
------------------------------------------------------

Quoted from soft.com.sg, "Testosterone overload". Seriously.
There were only 7 girls but I only got to talk to 2. Ros & Tini.

We were to report at 7.30am. Hairul called to wake me up at 5am. The sky was still dark when I left the house. I don't even wake up that early for school. Over there, Scott gave a briefing and showed the band leaders the way to the holding area which was at the 10th floor. While walking to the 10th floor, I talked to Ashik of 3dash1 'cause he was closest to my height compared to everyone else who were much taller.

After the souncheck, we hung out at McD's and then went to change. I wore a green wrap dress which I bought the day before while shopping with Shahida. After our performance, we went up to the holding area at the 10th floor. It's kinda like a really big store room or warehouse on the 10th floor. Very hot & stuffy but with washroom. When we came in everyone was just chilling and sitting around. Eventually, we got bored and started getting restless and kept crapping around. The guys started to play soccer with an empty plastic bottle and i remembered walking around the place, back & forth and being hit by the clappers repeatedly.

Took a lot of pix, of course. To which they gave me the nickname "Fiza the Camera Girl". I was busy taking pix of anything & everything that at one point of time when this lady wanted to bring me to the Main Office to do a phone interview with WKRZ she had to say, "Hi, are you done?" (i love taking pictures with my digicam u see, so if ur lucky i may one day ask u to pose for my camera, whoever you are)

Heh. Had loads of fun. While waiting for the results, i got to listen to some of the other bands and i was completely blown away! Ronin was there and we also got to see B-Quartet. They're like super fucken awesome can!

Because a photo is worth a thousand words:

Sit & Type before you forget: Part 3

Cont'd....

SOR Semis Preview Showcase ( Saturday, 16/7)
-----------------------------------------------------

We're the first band to perform. Marinca Cove Amphitheatre. Anyway, it was raining super-heavily, and i woke up late! So i left the house w/ nothing on my face & nothing on my hair! Yep, my hair was FLAT. May i also add that i actually went on stage w/o make-up and hair still flat? Thank God it was raining...

We were supposed to be at the place by 9.15am and we reached just in time. Everything happened so fast. Too fast. There was quite a lot of people considering that it was raining and it was 9.30 in the morning. But of course, they were there for the lucky draw. After that, we went off to take lots of pix and then off to Baybeats in the evening.

*Highlight of the day: We were at Amber Road and saw everything Amber. Amber Hotel, Amber Lodge, Amber Gardens.

Interview with WKRZ (19/7)
---------------------------

We took the freaking cab during the freaking peak-period from Bukit Batok to Boon Lay all the way to Thomson Road. Why? Because we were told that our slot was gonna be at 7.15pm. When we arrived at about 7.10pm, there were 3 bands waiting for their turn. Urgh. So we just hung out and chatted with this other band, Aspirin, who's slot was after ours. They're a bunch of really friendly guys. Well, at least the 2 guitarists and their drummer are. Their drummer, Ken, is my schoolmate whom i never dared to approach in school 'cause he seemed very garang (fierce). Turns out he's a pretty friendly guy. Fauzie's cool & laidback. Sean was the friendliest and chatty-est of them all. Very tall guy whom i assumed was one of the older people in the competition. To my surprise, he is only 15-turning-16! He even showed us his Ez-Link cum Student pass to prove it!

After much crapping around, Suzanne Walker finally came out to bring us in at about 10pm. We had to do a brief interview and a recording of the Acoustic version of "Breathe in the Sunshine", repeatedly. I didn't have water with me, it was really late, the room was very cold and my voice sucked big time. Thank you very much.

We were finally done at about 10.45pm. Thank God. So, who heard the interview? =)

Sit & type before you forget! : Part 2

(speaking of type, do u know that Howard Shan Lo, the techno-geek from Eye for a Guy 2 has such fast fingers, he types 150 wpm? WHO types 150 wpm? Who does he think he is, The Flash?)

Okay people, today it's all about the School of Rock. thou shalt be enlightened.

I received a call while in the school library one quiet afternoon. Very familiar number. I ran out to answer the phone. Jennifer from Music & Movement called to inform me that Amber & Me was one of the 20 bands chosen to be in the Semi-Finals. How did i react?

"Eh, stop jumping up and down, i can't hear you...Relax.", said Jennifer.

Like OMFG, i so didn't expect to get the call. naturally, i'd be estatic. After more squeals of joy, (and weird stares) it was down to serious business.

School Excursion 1 : SPH News Centre ( 9 July 05, Sat)

Interview, Photoshoot and Signing of Agreement.

Melissa Pang, u know her? Dinky said "pretty girl". Ashik said "she's cute right??"

Gimme a cute guy reporter, now! Heh.

The photograpther and this other reporter, Jill Alphonso, brought us to some stairway.

"Okay, i want a happy pose! Open your mouth and smile...", said Mr. Photographer.

So we posed, and posed and smiled and posed and laughed and i stopped, turned away from the camera for a short breather and straightened my top, and *kachik* the camera went. Did the camera just clicked? But i wasn't ready! Another *kachik*. Hey!!

They just had to choose that one. Say hello to Hunchback of Notre Dame! *boohoo* Oh hell, at least it beats sporting a rigid pose and ending up looking like a bunch of Pee Wees, no?

School Excursion 2 : City Music ( 13 July 05, Wed)

All bands had to get their guitars toned for the Semis. Met up with the guys straight after school. They were in their ethnic costumes 'cause they were celebrating Racial Harmony Day in school. Heh. So it was off to Peace Centre. The moment we reached City Music, we were asked to leave our bags and guitars behind the counter. Who did i find sitting behind the counter? Mayuni Omar. Local songwriter/musician. Wanted to say hi, but decided not to.

After much drooling & swooning over the guitars and amps and keyboards, the guy whom I talked to over the phone, Yeegn Lougn, came to assist us with the guitar toning. Cool & Friendly guy. Not bad looking either. And eloquent guys are always good. (Found out a few days before the SEMIs that he was the General Manager and he's going to be one of the judges!)

Once done, we then proceeded to walk from Peace Centre all the way to the Esplanade but gave up once we reached City Hall Mrt. How fun.

To be cont'd......

This morning we were shown the percentage of our attendance for our OFA lessons in school so far. Warning letters will be sent to the parents of students whose percentage of attendance for all subjects is below 95. My friends would know me well, so i'm not going to elaborate on whether my attendance is above or below 95%. My friends have tried calling me to wake me up in the morning. Doesn't work. So now, my other classmate who lives nearby has offered to meet me at 7.20am at the bus interchange. I'm going to have to force myself to wake up and make sure i meet him on time! Thanx, Kenny. Let's hope this works.

It's now 1.58am. I'm going to sleep and wake up early in the morning. Body Combat today has been the best so far! Oh, and i finally got the Student Concession. Waha, i'll be tap tap tapping all the way....

Sit & type before you forget! : Part 1

SCHOOL
-------------

School has been okay. More than okay actually, it's great! We'll be having our exams these few weeks. There was a floorball tournament held at ITE College East Simei last week. We had to go down to the east to show our "support" for College West on Thursday (28/7). So there were ITE students from all over Singapore congregating at the newest ITE College in the country. Like, hello...the school is huge! Their outdoor performance area alone is as big as my school.
Saw many familiar faces. And one who announced my name to the crowded cafeteria when he shouted my name. it was Khai. Wahaha.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

On Saturday (30/7), Piz, Nor and I went down again for the HipHop class. Waha. It started at 9.30am but we arrived there at 10.30am. And it didn't help that we didn't know our way around! We found the place and after a few oh-so-super-embarassing incidents, we decided to go have lunch at the cafeteria instead. I bumped into some friends too. Met Nashir from 3Dash1 who is in the school's concert band. Serene (i missed u, gurl!) who is also in the concert band. And Nadia, an ex-schoolmate who's in Nursing.

We have a new Class Advisor and Business Fundementals teacher, Mr Sampson Lee. He's our third one and it's only been over a month. All three had enviable jobs at reputable companies, but no teaching experience. He's gonna have so much fun teaching a bunch of hyperactive and no-sense-of-shutting-up students. One peculiar thing about my class is that even though the guys are noisier, you can count on them to turn up for every lesson on time. The girls on the other hand.......well, it has only been over a month :)

Body Combat
---------------

Why does KC have to keep calling out to me every time? Call someone else lah. Just 'cause i'm the youngest, everyone's so "hey little girl" to me. And they call me Siti for God's sake! The part of my name i seldom acknowledge. Heh. "Siti, you okay?" "Come on, Siti put in more strength! Jab-jab-cross, uppercut-hook and a jump kick! That's right!" And when i couldn't find my balance, i tried to hide behind the few people in front of me and then he said, "Siti, i can still see you, you know?" Hahaha!

We had an intensive crunching session. My abdomen's still aching. So is my ass! But at least i'm more coordinated and energetic now. Probably 'cause there are newer members now and i'm no longer the girl who couldn't get her left and right RIGHT. Waha.
